William T. Spears' scythe: Kuroshitsuji/ Black Butler

A friend of mine asked me to make William T. Spears' scythe, so I did. This took less than 2 days to make :3

Materials

2x 5cm diameter dowels
1x 2cm diameter dowel
Some cardboard
Red paint
Silver paint
Black paint
Glue

Creating the pole

The pole's creation was quite simple, as it consisted of attaching the 2 wider pieces of dowel together. To do this, I drilled a hole in the end of each pole and put the smaller dowel inside, securing it with super glue (because I apparently own no wood glue) and holding it in place. The long rod I'd made then got a coat of silver paint, which I left to dry overnight.

The ends

The scythe has 2 grabber ends, one of which is like secateurs and the other is like a litter picker.
To make these, I traced the art below onto paper (I fit the smaller pieces to a5 paper) and then drew around that onto cardboard.

I cut the shapes out, then painted them the correct colours and left them to dry.

Once the ends had dried, I had to find suitable glue. As this was a one-day use prop, I didn't want to spend too much time/ effort (that sounds so lazy, but I was asked to make this about 3 days before the convention it was for, so there wasn't a lot of time I could spend on it) making it perfect, just to see it sit and gather dust.  I went with something called "Serious Glue" as I thought it'd be up to the task, and it did indeed live up to its name. I glued the flat side of the grabber ends to the pole I'd created and held on to it, managing to get about a quarter of a tube of glue on my hands in the process. I did the ends one at a time as this was actually quite a big prop (just less than 1.5m in total) and once each end was supporting itself I glued a cylinder of cardboard to the grabber and the pole to strengthen it as well as to add to the effect.

Once each end was dried, I touched up the paintwork (some of it had mysteriously disappeared at the gluing stage) and it was done!
